Iran’s ‘Alan’ wins award at Iraq fest

Iranian short ‘Alan’ bags the Best Kurdish Short Film Award at the 5th Duhok International Film Festival in Iraq.

Directed and produced by Mostafa Gandomkar, the Kurdish-language short gives a narrative of the calamities that many Kurdish families in Syria and Iraq have undergone; those who have lost their homes and families after attacks by the DAESH Takfiri terrorists. It depicts one of them, narrating the story of a day in the life of Abdullah, Reyhan and their kid Alan, with all the ups and downs they go through, prior to their relocation.

‘Alan’, together with three other flicks, 'Gaze' by Farnoush Samadi, 'From Hasakah with Love' by Mohammad Farahani, and 'Achieve' by Mohammadreza Minapour, were Iran’s competitors at the filmfest.

Gandomkar’s short was given the ‘Best Kurdish Short Film’ award at the event.

The fifth edition of Duhok International Film Festival was held September 9-16, 2017 in Iraq.
